NICKI MINAJ

Onika Tanya Maraj, known professionally as Nicki Minaj is a Trinidadian-born American rapper, singer, songwriter and model. Minaj earned public attention after releasing three mixtapes between 2007 and 2009. Minaj's first and second studio albums, Pink Friday (2010) and Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (2012), both peaked at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 and produced the successful singles "Super Bass" and "Starships", respectively. Her third studio album, The Pinkprint (2014), was preceded by its second single, "Anaconda", which peaked at number two on the Hot 100 and is her highest-charting single in the U.S. to date.

As shown by the images to the left and the right of the page, Nicki Minaj had a huge fashion change during her career. The photos from the left are from the start of her career. She had bright coloured hair which constantly changed from blue to pink to green in a matter of weeks. Her clothes and fashion were also very avant-garde and unique, no other artist dressed like Nicki Minaj did. I think that her style was so different at the start of her career as it made her stand out and got her a lot of attention, which then related back to getting attention for her music. Once she had a significant fan base her style began to change and became more relaxed, as shown in the pictures on the right. Her hair has maintained the colour black for the majority of her career now and her style, although provocative still, has also hugely been relaxed. Even though she isn't wearing some of the daring outfits she once wore, her clothes have always had high sex appeal. This is part of her brand and has been from the beginning of her career. She is empowering in her outfits and doesn't take the traditional approach of women covering up. This is also portrait in her songs which also hold lyrics of a provocative nature.

These are Nicki Minaj's 3 albums, 'Pink Friday' , 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded' and 'The Pinkprint'. Each of these clearly have a resemblance of the colour pink however the album covers change through time. Her first album on the left features a picture of the artist. The image immediately draws attention to the album as it is unique and not the typical image of the artists face which is commonly seen on CDs. The next album is very brightly coloured and appears quite busy. This resembles the fast paced, upbeat rap/pop music that Nicki makes. The last album 'The Pinkprint' is the most simple of all 3. This may be because she has a strong fanbase so doesn't need to attract an audience in more daring ways anymore. However it does still feature the pink theme which has been prominent throughout her brand and career.
